…I’m Supposed to be Working…

Hi.  My name is Jed.  I’m supposed to be working, but instead I’m reading comic books.  And, actually, at right this moment, instead of working, I’m writing about comic books.  There’s a lot of stuff I should be doing at the shop today, but instead, I’m going to do a quick review of a book that came out today, and tell you if you should pick it up or not.  I’m doing it because I have opinions on the books, sure, but mostly I’m doing it so I don’t have to mop anything.  So, instead of working…

… here’s my review of Hawkeye #1!

I’m going to do my best to keep this as spoiler free as I can…

Hawkeye is a brand new comic from Marvel staring the female former Avenger Kate Bishop, not Clint Barton.  It’s written by Kelly Thompson, who you may remember from her run on A-Force, or more recently from the Star Wars Annual.  The interior art comes from Leonardo Romero, who’s done work on Squadron Supreme and some of the Civil War tie-ins.  Of note, by the way, is that the cover is provided by Julian Totino Tedeso, and it is beautiful.  I’m actually glad that Tedeso’s going to be providing covers for future issues.

This was a really good, really fun, first issue of the new book.  The story was good enough to get me interested in what happens next.  The art was, in my opinion, very good for the style of story that was being told, and I grew to enjoy some of the little touches a great deal.  Between the interesting story and the surprisingly deep art, I definitely felt that it was worth my $3.99, and Marvel will be selling me another issue when it comes out.  I was, without a doubt, satisfied.
